Brisbane Valley Heritage Trails Inc. is an association that reflects the history of the Brisbane River Valley when it was considered a single pastoral region and its natural boundaries were rivers and mountain ranges.
Our members are drawn from the Somerset, Toowoomba and South Burnett Regions. Brisbane Valley Heritage Trails Inc. enjoys sponsorship from the regional councils. We meet on the first Thursday of each month at locations ranging from Fernvale to Nanango, including Esk, Toogoolawah, Moore, Stonehouse Estate, Harlin, Linville, Camp Duckadang, Blackbutt, Yarraman and Goombungee.
Our meetings are open to the public, visitors are welcome and minutes or information about meetings can be obtained from our secretary at Nanango Visitor Information Centre (Phone 4171 6871) during business hours or email tourism@nanango.qld.gov.au Membership forms can be obtained from the Secretary.
Our association developed from an ad hoc committee formed to serve the Esk Shire Council by developing tourist signage from a large grant in 2003. This attracted like minded people from several regions and after the grant was acquitted, the committee was formally incorporated as a community association and has been active ever since.
We have developed heritage calendars, books of larrikin tales of the Brisbane Valley Vols. I & II, and “Building the Line”, the stories of those who built the Blackbutt extension of the Brisbane Valley Rail Line.
Brisbane Valley Heritage Trails Inc. contributed to the earlier opening of the Linville to Blackbutt Rail Trail by Nanango Shire Council and to the opening of the Moore to Linville Rail Trail in 2007. The Moore to Linville Rail Trail was the first one in Queensland funded by the State Government and it represents the first section of an ambitious plan to open 140km of the disused rail corridor from Wulkuraka to Yarraman for recreational use. We continue to be active partners with our member organisations in celebrating school, church & town centenaries and festivals.
We now have a significant collection of photos of the pioneer towns of the Brisbane River Valley with particular reference to Toogoolawah, Moore and Linville, as well as old photos associated with the Brisbane Valley Rail Line.
Our members have produced oral history interviews with older residents and the documented burials in most cemeteries of the Brisbane Valley are included in Australian Cemeteries. We are happy to share our historical resources for the cost of production and postage and welcome your requests.
